Rubber Bands Used as Ceramic Molds

The Beatles famously admitted they “get by with a little help from their friends.” Similar to this, potters get by with a little help from rubber bands!

Picture a pottery class. You may envision a group of people spinning a wheel and shaping clay.

Many potters may know that there are more ways you can craft clay by using rubber bands for certain projects.

Molds, or ceramic molds in particular, have been used for centuries to make perfect reproductions of three-dimensional objects. Rubber Bands are used as a hands-free way to hold split plaster molds together during pouring and/or storage. This helps potters create consistently-shaped objects and in mass production when needed.
